Franke Road

Safety Improvement Concept

Our chance to make Franke Road better is now

Franke Road is currently in deteriorated condition, and the planned reconstruction creates a valuable opportunity to redesign the corridor for safety and comfort for everyone who uses it.

Today, the roadway is overly wide with highway-scale lanes, which send a visual signal to drivers that higher speeds are expected and acceptable.

In addition, there are no designated pedestrian crossings along the corridor, making it difficult and unsafe for people walking or biking to cross the street.

Improvement Concept

Through listening to neighbors, community leaders, and students, we’ve developed a concept that redesigns elements of Franke Road to work better for the people who use it.

Please note: this is a conceptual design aimed at starting conversations about what a better Franke Road could look like. We always welcome input!

Reduce width of road surface to feel more appropriate for lower, neighborhood speeds while maintaining existing capacity

Create a crosswalk with median refuge island from the Meijer parking lot to
TCAPS Montessori school

Connect Buffalo Ridge Trail further south from the school to Great Wolf Lodge along the west side of the road

Improve intersection at Silver Lake Road to reduce crossing distances
