Creating Safety in 5 years Now

We've identified several “quick hit” projects that will require minimal cost and effort to implement, but can quickly create real safety improvements for everyone, creating a stronger, more connected region. Focusing on these projects will allow us to create meaningful change sooner, rather than later.

Long Term Goals

2x4 Vision

The 2x4 Vision aims to create a safe, connected, cohesive network of non-motorized transportation corridors throughout Traverse City for all ages and abilities to feel comfortable getting around.

Our goal is to create:

  • 2 East-West Corridors

  • 4 North-South Corridors

This is not a single project but a guiding principle to ensure that smaller improvements—such as bike lanes, crosswalks, or multi-use paths—contribute to a larger, cohesive system. No specific routes have been determined yet, allowing flexibility as projects develop.

The goal is to create a safer, more accessible city where non-motorized transportation is a viable, convenient option for everyone, whether you’re 8 or 80 years old.

What do you want to see?

The Grand Traverse Safe Streets Alliance was established to serve as a voice for the community and advocate for the wants and needs of the people to create safer streets for all.

We’ve identified several projects that could be implemented in the near term and want to know which projects excite you the most so we can focus our efforts on what the community wants to see.
