Bryant Park Intersection
The area around Bryant Park faces several key challenges that make walking and biking difficult, especially for families and children heading to the park:
No sidewalk on the east side of the road
Difficult and unsafe crossings at the M-37/Peninsula Drive intersection
Northbound bike lane ends at the curve
Lack of clear, direct access to the park
Several ideas identified in the concept visualization below could help address these issues. The visualization is an early concept meant to start a conversation. It highlights potential improvements that could be made to enhance safety and accessibility in the area. The goal is to explore what’s possible—not to prescribe a finished solution—and to gather feedback on how this space could better serve the community.
Conceptual Improvements
1 • Extended Sidewalk
The existing sidewalk that ends at Anderson Road would be extended north along M-37 on the east side of the road
2 • Curb Extension
The current wide curb radius encourages high-speed turns from M-37 onto Peninsula Drive. Extending the curb into the intersection would tighten the turning radius, forcing drivers to slow down and improving visibility and safety for crossing pedestrians. It would also provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists and create a better connection to Bryant Park.
3 • Crosswalk & Median Island
The concept adds a crosswalk and median island across M-37, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to cross one direction of traffic at a time using a protected refuge area. It could also include Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) to further improve safety by alerting drivers to people crossing.
4 • Shared Use Trail
The planned extension of the Bayfront TART trail serves as a 10-foot-wide connection for all trail users along the west side of M-37
